IQ FUEL : Fuel quality sensor

Development of an integrated quality fuel sensor

IQ FUEL Project

Collaborative R&D Project : development of an integrated fuel quality sensor

Labels : Euripides, Aerospace Valley

Target :

To develop, to prototype and to test an integrated sensor on a demonstrator, sending to the engine ECU the fuel parameter datas.

Partnerships :

  • Continental Automotive
  • PSA
  • Daimler Truck
  • IFPEn (Institut français du Pétrole Energies Nouvelles)
  • Aboard Engineering
  • INPT (Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse)
  • CEA LETI
  • VTI Technologies
  • VTT - Technical Research Centre of Finland
  • Selmic

Technical purpose :

develop both a miniaturized cost-optimized sensor and the associated EMS which allows adapting the engine control strategies and parameters in function of fuel quality meanwhile controlling level of pollution. The miniaturized sensor device will be developed as a micro system. The EMS functionality will be integrated into an existing Engine Control Unit, so to allow for on-vehicle testing. The global system will be developed, prototyped and validated on engine test bench and on vehicle by measuring the emission levels and the associated fuel consumption with different types of fuels. Finally, the approach will be compared to standard, existing EMS. The technological part of the program is dedicated to the miniaturization of the sensor device (Infra Red spectroscopy potentially or Absorbing polymers) according to automotive market requirements.
